The final two properties acquired through the ACT Initiative are both duplexes located on Kempler Dr. in South Austin near Manchaca and Slaughter. They were both built in the mid 1980s and are roughly 1100 sq ft per unit per property (Four units, total). Each property is slightly different, but both are 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom with full kitchens and open living/dining room areas. The duplexes are near grocery stores and other shopping areas and are conveniently located between IH 35 and Mopac. They are served by Capital Metro’s 10 – South First [pdf] and 3 – Manchaca [pdf] bus routes. These properties will need the most renovation work, but that will give us the greatest opportunity to add modifications so that this property can be an example of what accessibility retrofits should look like in existing housing.
